Candlestick Patterns · Bearish
Evening Star
A long bullish candle, a small candle, then a bearish candle closing into the first body.
Buying slows on the middle candle. The third candle closes back down into the first candle's body.
This is an example of how traders often plan the pattern. It is not a promise that price will reach the target.
Identification
- Candle one is a long bullish candle.
- Candle two has a small body.
- Candle three is bearish and closes below the midpoint of candle one.
Market context
The pattern is the bearish counterpart of the morning star.
Entry example
An example entry is below the third candle's low.
Stop-loss example
An example stop is above the highest high of the three candles.
Target example
An example target is the open of the first candle.
Common mistakes
- Using a small middle candle that never stalls a real rally.
