Candlestick Patterns · Bearish
Shooting Star
A small body near the low and a long upper shadow, after a rally.
Buyers pushed the candle higher and could not hold it. The close finishes near the low of that candle.
This is an example of how traders often plan the pattern. It is not a promise that price will reach the target.
Identification
- The upper shadow is long.
- The real body is small and near the low.
- It follows a rally.
Market context
At resistance, the failed push higher is the point of the pattern.
Entry example
An example entry is a later close below the shooting star low.
Stop-loss example
An example stop is above the shooting star high.
Target example
An example target is the prior swing low.
Common mistakes
- Shorting the upper wick before the candle has closed near its low.
Candlestick and chart patterns are probabilistic observations, not guaranteed trading signals. This page does not report a win rate.
