Candlestick Patterns · Bearish
Gravestone Doji
Open and close sit at the low, with a long upper shadow.
Price rallied during the candle and returned to the open by the close. After a rally, that failed high is the bearish clue.
This is an example of how traders often plan the pattern. It is not a promise that price will reach the target.
Identification
- Open and close are nearly equal and near the low.
- The upper shadow is long.
- There is little or no lower shadow.
Market context
After a rally it resembles a shooting star. The doji body means the close gave back the whole push.
Entry example
An example entry is a later close below the gravestone low.
Stop-loss example
An example stop is above the upper shadow.
Target example
An example target is the prior swing low.
Common mistakes
- Reading it as bullish only because the wick went up.
